DESCRIPTION:Mon. January 20 – 7PM\nJapan (Part 2)\nPresenter: Tom Getz\nLocation: Clubhouse 7 \nDoors open at 6:30PM for refreshments. \nThe final show on Japan by Tom Getz\, featuring the heartland of Japanese culture\, from Hakone\, Nagano\, Nikko and Takayama in the north to Kyoto and Nara further south. \nFirst\, we visit Lake Ashinoko and the Open-Air world class art museum near Hakone\, with abstract sculptures from Japanese and international artists. Tom shares his experiences at a traditional ryokan inn\, and provides pictures of Japanese food. Next is Nagano for an historical temple and the gateway to Obuse (Hokusai and Manga Museum) and later to see the snow monkeys frolicking and splashing. \nNikko\, a must stop for a few days\, provides magnificent views of elaborate temples and shrines: Rinnoji\, Yomeimon Gate\, Tōshō-gū Shrine (Three Wise monkeys)\, Nemuri Neko (Sleeping Cat) Shrine. Tom tours the Tamozawa Imperial Villa before leaving Nikko. \nIn the mountain village of Takayama we visit a museum of festival floats and then Hida\, an open-air folk village. \nDuring several days in Kyoto we enjoy a Kabuki show\, see the famous Temple of the Golden Pavilion\, and the Temple of the Silver Pavilion (Ginkaku-ji)\, Joshoji Temple\, Hein Temple and gardens\, the historical Sanjusangen-do Hall\, Garden of Kamakura\, Nijo-jo Castle and grounds\, Inari Shrine\, the multitude of torii gates at Inari\, and a famous Zen Temple\, the largest in Japan. \nOur final city\, Nara\, seems over-run with tame deer\, and features Nigatsudo Hall\, Nara Todari Temple and Gate\, and Kasuga Shrine. \nMembers attend for free\, Non-members pay a $5 donation fee at the door\, day of the event.

DESCRIPTION:The Annual Year End Awards Dinner will definitely be a celebration of the last 12 months as a Club.  We have a lot to be thankful for\, and a lot to highlight. \nThere is a great dinner scheduled by the caterer Martinez\, there will be the end of year images and awards\, and there will be other awards\, and giveaways. \nWe will celebrate the new initiatives introduced this year – Outreach/Pro-Bono\, Tutor/Mentor\, Club Trips\, Photo Lab “Open House”\, “Club Night” membership meetups\, Sponsorships\, and Member Ambassadors – and the expansion of our outreach to the LWV community\, especially the Clubs. \nThe Club has continued to improve the Photo Lab equipment and supervisor skills\, including setting up the scanning room\, making this great resource available to the public\, \nThe Club is also the midst of an extended capital fundraising campaign to completely replace our older equipment and bring the entire Photo Lab up to modern standards both in hardware and software. \nIn all\, we have a great group of volunteers helping to move the Club forward\, a bunch of new members\, with all our members looking to grow with the Club and enjoy all things photographic! \nTime to celebrate! \nLook for cost and reservation details closer to the date.
